Painting plastics has long been a major challenge for companies with high volume paint operations. Commonly used Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO) materials like Polyethylene (PE) and Polypropylene (PP) are inherently difficult to paint due to their low surface energy, but Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS), Polycarbonate Polyethylene Terephthalate (PC/PET), and Nylons are also challenging.
While the surface energy of these plastics can be raised with plasma or flame treating processes, these are often not desirable due to the space requirements, equipment costs, environmental issues, and the fact that they sometimes alter the part being painted.
U.S. Paint’s specialty is building a product to fit the customer’s process. We offer a very successful Universal Adhesion Promoter that performs well on a wide variety of plastics in many different application environments. Nearly all of our adhesion promoters differ from our competitors’, as they are low VOC, HAPS free coatings that comply with most environmental regulations.
Manufacturing snowmobiles, ATVs, utility vehicles, and motorcycles in one operation required our client to have the capability to paint on a number of different plastic materials using many different painting processes. Using our extensive experience in painting plastics, we created a Universal Adhesion Promoter that worked across all processes and with every plastic material being used in their operation. This product streamlined operations, reduced inventory, and saved the company a significant amount of money. This Universal Adhesion Promoter now serves as one of our most popular coatings due to its unmatched flexibility and performance.
