Candy toned paints is generally used as a term to describe colors with an excellent depth of image (DOI). The goal with these paints is to create a finish that practically acts like a mirror. Their attractive appearance has made them a mainstay on products like motorcycles, jet skis, and scooters where a high impact appearance is a major factor in the ultimate customer’s decision to buy.
Using traditional technology, achieving this look typically requires three coats – a basecoat, transparent coat, and clearcoat. U.S. Paint, however, has developed a 2-coat candy technology that utilizes only a basecoat and clearcoat. This technology eliminates one whole process allowing manufacturers to reduce costs, eliminate the need for additional paint booths, and minimize environmental impact.
